The 2009 AIDS Bicycle Challenge is the official Charity Ride of the 2009 Tour of Missouri Stage 7 in Kansas City!  Join the ABC on Saturday, September 12th for the most exciting group ride of the 2009 season.  The ride starts and ends in the Power & Light District with course options for riders of all levels; even those of you who haven't ridden in years!  The ride is co-chaired by two of Family Bicycles' own:  Elizabeth and Theresa share the duties along with past co-chair Patty Abshier.  

Family Bicycles wants everyone to join us for a day of fun for a great cause.  The ABC benefits the AIDS Service Foundation, serving over 5,000 men and women in the KC area with HIV/AIDS.  So to sweeten the deal, Family Bicycles will donate $25 towards your fundraising goal when you purchase a new bicycle from us before September 11, 2009. 

Bicycle Rides:  Mondays at 6:30pm from Family Bicycles' parking lot

ABC Training Ride:  Elizabeth leads a moderately paced, no drop ride on low traffic streets.  The ride intensity and length will increase as the season progresses.  Ride with us regularly and you'll be in great shape for the ABC!

Beginner's Ride:  Theresa leads a slow ride for people new to cycling or not used to riding in groups.  We generally ride 8-10 miles in one hour.  Everyone is welcome and no one is ever left behind. Children riding bicycles with wheels 24" or larger are welcome to ride with their parent or guardian.  Remember, we do ride on city streets with light traffic. 

Helmets and lights always required!  We do not ride if it is below 45 degrees, it is raining, or if lightning is visible.

Reducing Poverty One Mile at a Time:  Cycling for Change (C4C) is an initiative of Catholic Charities of Kansas City - St. Joseph in its efforts to reduce poverty in America by 50% by the year 2020. C4C is a series of local bike rides culminating in a 5,000 mile ride across America in May to September 20I0 that will act as a catalyst of change to address the issues of poverty through advocacy, fundraising and raising awareness.
